Mundanely Romantic
02:45
|
|||
It’s mundanely romantic
buying flowers to say sorry,
eating candlelit dinners,
leaving notes for each other,
going to church on a Sunday,
pruning roses by dozens,
dressing up to go walking,
holding hands while they’re talking.
It’s mundanely romantic.
It’s mundanely romantic
being sad when they’re happy,
laughing when crying
at soft soap on tv,
smiling at babies
and wondering if maybe
the soft pitter-patter
will be kitten or puppy;
the sex wouldn’t matter
as long as it’s healthy.
It’s mundanely romantic
except when they say where were you last night?
I’ve been worried sick and now I’m sick and tired.
Don’t make it any worse by saying things
that neither of us will ever believe are true – like I love you.
It’s mundanely romantic
saying goodbye through a window,
waving off at a station,
sending texts on arrival,
scrimping and saving
with talk of survival
beyond understanding
where money won’t matter
and love’s everlasting
if you send it by email.
It’s mundanely romantic
except when they say where were you last night?
I’ve been worried sick and now I’m sick in the head.
Let’s not make it any worse by saying things
that neither of us should have ever said – like I wish that you were dead.
It’s mundanely romantic
but it could really be romantic
if you tried a little harder.

I've Forgotten You
04:28
|
|||
I’ve been waiting a while now for you to return
But my eyes aren’t watering and my ears don’t burn
You seem to forget that I’ve forgotten you
Given time I suppose you will forget that too
But the waiting’s the hardest part
And just thinking what you do
But I won’t shed a tear and I won’t waste my time
I’m not standing here hoping you come back to me
Selected amnesia, a wise decision to make
And if sleep comes so easy to you how come you’re wide-awake?
I remember the hardest part – knowing your mistake
But I won’t shed a tear and I won’t waste my time
If you dare to come near I’ll pretend I am blind
So if you change your idea
Don’t forget
You’ve forgotten me
I remember the hardest part – deciding you are weak
I won’t shed a tear
I won’t waste my time
I’m not standing here wishing that you were mine
If you dare to come near I’ll pretend I am blind
So if you change your idea
Don’t forget
You’ve forgotten me

Let's Go Rock Pooling
03:03
|
|||
Let’s go rock pooling
Acting young and fooling around
Rock hopping, seagull spotting
Building in the sand
Drawing pictures, cartoon features
Artwork on the beach
Transient sculpture with no future
A timeless masterpiece
Let’s go cliff walking, idle talking
Making easy plans
A house or two with a perfect view
Of a sea that understands
All I take is some emotion
Sunglasses, suntan lotion
I sit and watch the ocean
Let’s go stone skimming, sea breezing
Breathing it inside
Let’s go dream drifting, mood shifting
Following the tide
Enjoying perfect timing
Up high the sun is shining
Every cloud’s a silver lining
Take a look outside now
Let’s go rock pooling

You Don't Need Ten
03:29
|
|||
You may have books but don’t read them
Or you may read them like books and then leave them
You don’t need ten trees to turn over a new leaf
The tall trees stand so tall because their roots are underneath
You may regret some things you’ve said
You may not feel like getting out of bed
You don’t need ten hours sleep to get you through the day
And no one remembers what you say anyway
You may lose things mysteriously
You may do things religiously
You don’t need Ten Commandments – you only need two of them
Do to others as you would have them do to you
And put things back where you find them
If they get under your skin like an old tattoo
Remember that lies are sometimes true
You may be good at analysing
Making lists and prioritising
But you don’t need a top ten – just know what you dislike
Categorise what you despise – contextualise and exorcise
You may have had a big belly full
Your foot in mouth became a handful
But you don’t need ten fingers – only eight and two thumbs
Is your stomach half empty or half full?
What’s more important – your teeth or your gums?
Remember who’s the boss and don’t forget to floss

You're Here Now
03:31
|
|||
I love you more than any view I’ll ever see
If I only had two wishes
They’d be you and me
I wish I’d met you sooner but I know it couldn’t be
No matter, you’re here now
Sometimes I worry when you’re not within my sight
And I wonder where you go in your dreams at night
And I wonder sometimes what you’re really like
No matter, you’re here now
In my turmoil and my search for what is there
You’re the calm and my still waters
My meditation and my prayer
You’re there
And if you were to go one time and not come back
And my worst fears became fact
I’d still love
I’d love you more than any view we’d ever seen
I’d still love you and we’d still be together in my dreams
Touch wood and whistle
And let’s hope that someone’s listening
No matter, you’re here now
Touch wood and whistle
If it makes you feel better
No matter, you’re here now
